Linda Ikeji; Nigerian billionaire who made a way in blogging where there was no way

It is quite easy to trade a path that has already been created. But, creating a path where there was no way at all can be pretty tasking. In as much doing this is not easy, the success story that comes after are always amazing and very inspiring. There are people who have blazed this people and received world class recognition. Interestingly the story of Linda Ikeji is one of the success stories of making a way where there was none. She brought into Nigeria, the blogging path that was never in existence.

Writing at 10; The beginning

Born and raised in a Catholic family from Nkwerre, Imo State, Nigeria, Linda developed an early passion for writing at the age of ten. With this passion burning hot, after her secondary school at the age of 17 she applied to study mass communication. As against her choice she was given admission to study English Language at the University of Lagos.

Her challenges

Surprising as it may sound the prolific writer and renowned blogger took up part-time jobs to assist her family and support her through school. She worked as a waitress, model and writer, etc.

She said: “I’d run off from lectures to a hotel and sell beer from 1 pm until 10 pm. I did this for a few months. It wasn’t easy at all, but I had to survive” (

From the records, in 2004 Linda graduated from the University. After spending some time looking for what to do to no avail; two years after school, in 2006 she started blogging as a hobby.

The hurdles of creating a new path

Rare passion as faced with so many hurdles. Linda started blogging when the issue of blogging was a whole lot different. As at that time, the internet was not as prominent in Nigeria. Unlike today, where barely everyone has a smart phone with internet access; passion-driven Linda had to make her posts at a cybercafé. Actually, the billionaire blogger started with a blogger sub-domain Yes. She started with a free blog. Nonetheless, she later obtained her domain

Professional career in blogging

Linda Ikeji’s blog is apparently her biggest venture. She became an active blogger in 2007. This was after she dumped her magazine publication which she considered stressful and expensive. About five years afterward, her blog, Linda Ikeji Blog developed into one of the most visited blogs in the country. Thousands trooped into her site on a daily basis for news, entertainment, celebrity gist, gossip and lots more.

She said: “I was receiving like 200 visits a daily and for me back then, it was a great deal, sincerely. Now I’m receiving like 50,000 visits daily from about 180 countries around the world.” (

Follow your passion judiciously, then, money will come

It is worthy to note that passion precedes money when you are blazing a trail. It took Linda Ifeoma Ikeji about four whole years of dedication to start making good cash from her blogging career. Linda never for once thought she could make money from blogging.

“I didn’t begin blogging with the frame of mind that someday I would really make money from it. As a matter of fact, it never even crossed my mind. I never said to myself that, OK let me start blogging now and maybe in five years’ time, I would begin to see the dividends”.

Start-ups after Linda Ikeji blog

One success leads to other successes. The success of Linda Ikeji blog led her to venture into other startups. She now has an online TV network, Linda Ikeji TV alongside other brands she was establishing. Linda Ikeji TV airs a variety of programmes ranging from talk shows, reality shows, TV series to Movies. The Network both produces some of its programmes and also buys TV contents.

Linda Ikeji also ventured into online radio broadcasting. The station is operated from the Linda Ikeji Media Office. Some of its programmes are broadcast live on Linda Ikeji TV. She also opened a Music Platform known as LindaIkejiMusic which was launched on the 21st of November 2016, but it became dormant three months after the Launch. More so, she launched a social networking platform named Linda Ikeji Social on the domain name

Linda Ikeji’s non-profit project

Prominently, Ikeji runs a non-profit project themed “I’d rather be self-made; No thanks”. This project is to assists young girls aged 16–25 who have great business ideas and are willing to venture into entrepreneurship. She gave out the sum of NGN10,000,000 in the Phase 1 of the project.
