Augustine Eguavoen has dismissed rumors suggesting he has stepped down from his role as the interim coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
Upon returning to Nigeria from a recent match in Rwanda, Eguavoen clarified, “Whatever people are reading out there is not correct; I am still in charge.”
He added, “As the technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation, it is my duty to manage the Super Eagles at this moment. That is where we stand.”
Eguavoen further explained, “I only mentioned that I would sit down with the federation’s hierarchy after these two games to discuss our strategy for the upcoming matches.”
He expressed frustration over the spread of false information, saying, “It’s quite unfortunate that incorrect stories are being circulated. In our current situation, we do not need negative reports.”
Under Eguavoen’s leadership, the Super Eagles achieved a 3-0 victory over Benin Republic last week and secured a goalless draw against Rwanda in Kigali on Tuesday.
The team currently leads Group D in the 2025 AFCON qualification series with four points from two matches.
