Barcelona win first trophy after Messi’s exit

Barcelona won their first trophy without their star man Lionel Messi with a 3-0 win over Juventus in the Gamper Trophy on Sunday.
Messi is leaving the Nou Camp following 21 years, subsequent after not being able to agree on a new contract with the board of the club.

Prior to the day, the 34-year-old bid goodbye in an emotional press conference. His departure didn’t stop his team from crushing Juve in the Gamper Trophy final.

Memphis Depay opened the scoring after only three minutes. Martin Braithwaite made it 2-0 with a pounding header not long before the hour mark from a corner. Riqui Puig added a third in stoppage time with a curling left-foot drive.

The new LaLiga season gets going on Friday, however, Barcelona has Real Sociedad on Sunday in their opening game.
