How to Find a Mentor

The best mentors don't advertise themselves. Here's how to attract one without being awkward.

Don't cold email: "Will you be my mentor?" Instead, show you respect their time. First, be a great mentee before you even ask read their work, implement their advice from public content, then share your results. That's proof you're worth investing in.

Ask for something small: "Could I buy you 15 minutes of coffee to ask two specific questions?" Never ask for a recurring commitment upfront. After the coffee, if you implement their advice, follow up with results and ask for one more 15-min chat. Over time, it grows naturally.

Great mentors want to help, but they want to help people who help themselves first.
