Meet – Dr. Claire Karekezi, Rwanda’s first female Neurosurgeon

Dr. Claire Karekezi graduated as a Doctor of Medicine from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Rwanda.

She completed her Neurosurgical training at the Rabat Training Center for African Neurosurgeons, Mohamed V University of Rabat, World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (Morocco), and graduated in 2016.

She was additionally selected a few neurosurgical cooperations with an exceptional interest in Neuro-Oncology and Skull Base Surgery at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a showing partner of Harvard Medical School (Massachusetts, USA), as an International Visiting Surgeon Fellow.

Dr. Karekezi later finished a Clinical Fellowship in Neuro-Oncology and Skull Base Surgery at the University of Toronto, Toronto Western Hospital (Canada) prior to getting back to Rwanda in August of 2018 to turn into the country’s first female Neurosurgeon.

She is right now a Consultant Neurosurgeon at Rwanda Military Hospital. She likewise fills in as the Chair of the African Women in Neurosurgery (AWIN) and is an individual from different public and global neurosurgical social orders.
